A Day of Thrills on the Field
The Silver Cup match (sponsored by Coronation Group) was the highlight of the grand finale. As powerful horses galloped across the lush green field, carrying their riders—members of Lagos MSR BUA and Lagos MSD BabyBear—toward victory, spectators, young and old, clung to the rails, captivated by the speed and precision of the players as they expertly swung their mallets, sending the ball soaring toward the goal.
For those less familiar with the sport, polo is a game played on horseback. Two teams of four players each compete to score goals using long-handled mallets. Originating from ancient Persia, the sport was initially a cavalry training exercise before evolving into a globally celebrated competition.
Today, it remains a symbol of strategy, skill, and heritage—values that resonate deeply with Coronation.
The Coronation Experience
From the moment customers of each of the 12 businesses that make up Coronation Group arrived at the grounds of Polo Club Ikoyi, they were welcomed by the sight of our iconic Coronation flag fluttering proudly at the entrance.
Each flutter graciously reaffirmed our enduring support for this prestigious event. Whether seated in the VIP section or enjoying the exclusivity of the hospitality concession boxes, our customers were treated to an immersive polo experience.
The commentator’s energetic voice narrated every swift play and strategic manoeuvre, building excitement toward a thrilling finale. As the intensity on the field grew, so did the excitement among our guests, who savoured the moment with gourmet cuisine, refreshing drinks, and front-row views of the action, all while engaging in meaningful conversations with fellow enthusiasts.
Every detail in providing hospitality to our guests was thoughtfully curated to ensure a seamless blend of comfort, elegance, and entertainment.
Style, Glamour, and the Spirit of Polo
Polo tournaments are as much about style as they are about sport, and this year’s event was no exception. Guests arrived in chic sundresses, boubous embellished with African art motifs, timeless outfits created with African fabrics such as Aso-oke, long flowing kaftans, tailored suits, showstopping hats, and elegant headscarves—wrapped majestically, cascading in soft, flowing layers, enhancing the grace of beautiful ladies who wore them.
Adding to the charm, our branded swing added a playful and Instagram-worthy touch, inviting attendees to relax and capture unforgettable moments.
The Heart of the Event
The heart of the event lay in the thrilling chukkas, the expertly executed swings, and the thunderous applause as each goal was scored. In the end, Lagos MSD BabyBear emerged victorious, lifting the coveted Silver Cup in a well-fought contest.
Beyond the final score, the tournament also honoured outstanding performances with awards such as Most Disciplined Player, Most Valuable Player (Silver Cup), and Best Playing Pony. These accolades celebrated not just technical skill but the values of discipline, teamwork, and excellence—principles that define both the sport of polo and Coronation’s approach to wealth creation and preservation.
